In the email you sent me concerning James 4:5 you mention Mark 15:28. Well, that verse simply does not exist in the NIV – both in Spanish and English! Would you know why?

A few Egyptian manuscripts form the primary basis for the popular “critical Greek text” favored by many modern scholars who study the variations in the readings of the ancient Greek manuscripts.

This verse does not appear in a handful of those Egyptian manuscripts, so these scholars do not admit this verse into their Greek text.

The NIV translators follow this Greek text, so they omit it as well.

However, the verse does appear in almost all other manuscripts — manuscripts spread out all over the Western world and copied over a long period of time from very early times until the invention of the printing press.
